The death toll from the collapse of an under-construction building in Delhi’s Chawri Bazar has risen to seven after rescuers recovered another body from the rubble, The Hindu reported, citing the recovery on Sunday, 8 November.
The latest victim was identified as 66-year-old Luchhuman Mukhiya, a resident of Jakauli village in Bihar’s Darbhanga district. His remains were taken to Dr Lalit Narayan Mishra Memorial Hospital, also known as LNJP Hospital, for further proceedings, the newspaper reported.
The three-storey building, located in Gali Sheesh Mahal in the congested Chawri Bazar market, collapsed on Thursday morning while a roof slab was being laid on its third floor. The Hindu reported that around 15 construction workers were at the site and that a preliminary investigation suggested the supporting pillars may have failed to bear the load.
Rescue teams were still searching the debris nearly three days after the collapse. ETV Bharat reported that the building’s owner and three contractors had been arrested in connection with the incident. The search was continuing, and the available reports did not establish whether further victims would be found.
