Multiple people were wounded by gunfire near Legion Field in Birmingham shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, 31 October, as crowds gathered for the Magic City Classic weekend, according to Birmingham police and local news reports.

The station said emergency crews were treating victims near Third Street West; the precise shooting location has not been established in the supplied reports. AL.com also reported that police and fire units were called to the area around Third Street West and Graymont Avenue shortly before 8 p.m.

The shooting happened after the 85th Magic City Classic, the annual game between Alabama A&M and Alabama State. Alabama A&M won 31–28, according to AL.com. CNAW2 reported that Birmingham police later suspended tailgating activities, told people to leave stadium property and urged the public to stay away from Legion Field.

As of the reports available Saturday evening, the victims’ conditions, their identities and whether anyone had been arrested were not confirmed. The circumstances and any motive for the shooting also remained unclear. The fact that it followed the game does not establish a connection between the shooting and the event.
