All nine people aboard a Learjet 60 died when it crashed in Greenacres, Florida, on Sunday, 1 November, according to US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
The aircraft went down at about 12:50 p.m. ET in a residential area of Palm Beach County near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North. Associated Press reporting carried by ABC7 said Duffy announced that all nine people on board had died.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the Learjet had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was bound for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The aircraft crashed near homes and a major roadway, and the impact sparked a fire, according to the AP report.
The FAA is sending a team to support the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation. The cause of the crash has not been established. It was not immediately clear whether anyone on the ground was injured.
Authorities closed roads near the crash site as emergency crews responded, USA Today reported. The investigation is ongoing.
