Franklinton High School in North Carolina was locked down after a report of an active shooter, but authorities said a search found no threat and no injuries were reported.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said students and staff were safe and that the report was believed to be false. The North Carolina SBI and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office response was reported by WLOS, which said an initial sweep found no signs of a threat.
The call came in at 10:23 a.m. on Monday, November 2, according to WRAL’s report. The school went into lockdown as sheriff’s deputies and other responders cleared the campus. Officials asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation was active.
Franklin County Sheriff Kevin White said the school would remain under law enforcement supervision as officials worked to reunite students with their families. ABC11 reported that the school planned an early dismissal and that families had been informed of dismissal procedures.
Authorities have said they are investigating where the false report originated. They have not publicly identified who made it or explained the motive. The investigation’s findings on its origin remain unknown.
