CD Tenerife announced that forward Jesús de Miguel had died aged 30 on Tuesday, after suffering a cardiac arrest following a collision in Monday’s Spanish second-division match against FC Andorra.
De Miguel was involved in a late challenge with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who had left his area to clear the ball. The score was 2-2 when the collision occurred during stoppage time, CNN reported.
Owono was shown a red card and the match was abandoned as players called for medical assistance. De Miguel was treated on the pitch before being taken to hospital. Tenerife had earlier described his condition as serious but stable, before reporting that it had deteriorated, according to Reuters.
The club said in a statement that there were “no words of comfort” and expressed its condolences to De Miguel’s family and loved ones. FC Andorra also issued a message of condolence, The Associated Press reported.
Spain’s football federation postponed cup fixtures scheduled for Tuesday following his death, according to the AP report. De Miguel joined Tenerife in 2025 after playing for several clubs in Spain’s lower divisions, CNN reported.
