Two people died when a small plane crashed near Public Beach Drive in Camden County, Missouri, at the Lake of the Ozarks, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
KSHB reported that troopers responded to the crash on Tuesday afternoon and that the aircraft was engulfed in flames. The patrol later confirmed two fatalities. Its Troop F account said responders were working to identify the occupants so their next of kin could be notified.
Reports differed on the precise time of the crash. KSHB said the patrol reported a response near Public Beach Drive at about 3 p.m., while ABC 17 News reported that the Federal Aviation Administration said the crash occurred at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday. The FAA told the station that two people were aboard.
Osage Beach Mayor Richard Ross told KY3 that the plane had taken off from Lee C. Fine Memorial Airport and crashed shortly afterwards in Lake of the Ozarks State Park. The cause of the crash has not been reported.
The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA were expected to arrive Wednesday to investigate, according to the patrol and KSHB. The agencies had not yet released findings.
