Salt Lake City police issue shelter-in-place order near 900 South and 1900 East

Salt Lake City police ordered people within a half-mile of 900 South and 1900 East to shelter in place Friday evening as officers responded to a man barricaded inside a home.

In a post on X, the Salt Lake City Police Department said officers were first called about a man making threats. Police said shots were fired from inside the home after officers arrived, and that officers were trying to negotiate the man’s surrender.

KUTV reported that the shelter-in-place request covered residents within a half-mile of the intersection. Police asked people to stay away from the area and take precautions to stay safe.

The order was still being reported as active in local coverage later Friday evening. ABC4 reported that some residents said they had been locked out of their homes and were waiting in the cold for information.

Police had not provided further details in the supplied reports about the man’s identity, whether anyone was injured or how the incident was resolved. The department said it would provide updates as they became available.
