Salt Lake City police said the shelter-in-place order remained in effect for homes within a half-mile of 900 South and 1900 East as a man stayed barricaded inside a home and officers continued trying to negotiate his surrender.
In an update posted Friday evening, the Salt Lake City Police Department said the man remained inside the home, negotiations were continuing and road closures were still in place. Police asked people to stay out of the area.
The standoff followed reports of a man making threats. ABC4 reported that officers heard shots fired from inside the home after they arrived. KSL and FOX 13 also reported the half-mile shelter-in-place area and that shots were fired from inside the residence.
ABC4 said emergency vehicles were blocking parts of 1900 East. The broadcaster also reported that some residents were unable to get back to their homes while police restricted access.
Police had not announced an end to the order in the latest update provided. The available reports did not identify the man or provide information about injuries or any charges. The incident remains developing.
