Dongri fire: Blaze reported at Haji Kasam Chawl as emergency crews respond

A fire was reported at a garage in Haji Kasam Chawl, Dongri, with emergency crews sent to the scene as reports emerged of flames and smoke in the area.

Mid-Day reported that the garage is on Dr Maheshwari Road, near Datta Mandir. It said the Mumbai Fire Brigade initially classified the incident as Level I before escalating it to Level II as the operation progressed. ANI also reported that fire tenders arrived at the garage.

Accounts of the fire’s classification differ: The Free Press Journal reported a Level-I incident, while Mid-Day said it was later upgraded to Level II. ThePrint’s PTI-based report also described it as Level I.

Emergency response and impact

The Free Press Journal said the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, BEST, 108 ambulance services and ward staff were deployed, with firefighting operations underway. It also reported road blockages in the neighbourhood.

Reports on casualties were not consistent. The Free Press Journal said no injuries had been reported at the time of its update; ThePrint’s report said details about possible casualties and the extent of damage were still awaited. The cause of the fire has not been established.

Some posts on X described shops and hutments as affected, but the cited newsroom reports identify the garage as the reported point of origin and do not confirm the extent of damage to surrounding structures. Further details remain awaited.
