An explosive-device detonation near the Francisco de Paula Santander international bridge in Cúcuta, Colombia, injured at least six people on Tuesday, October 27, according to an EFE report carried by HolaNews. The injured were identified in that report as four civilians and two police officers.
The blast occurred in the Escobal sector, near the bridge linking Cúcuta with Ureña, Venezuela, and near offices of Colombia’s tax and customs authority, DIAN. Norte de Santander security secretary Jorge Quintero told EFE the explosive was placed behind the DIAN building, where police park vehicles used for patrols near the bridge. Investigators had not established how the device was assembled or who was responsible.
Early accounts gave different injury totals. Vanguardia initially reported three people injured, while Noticias Caracol reported four police officers injured and said the bridge was closed preventively as authorities investigated. EFE’s later report carried by HolaNews gave a total of at least six, including four civilians and two officers.
An X post from the account Lentes Sin Filtros also reported several injuries and said the blast was beside the nearby Padre Luis Variara school. That post does not establish whether the school or any students were affected; the supplied reporting does not confirm injuries among children. The precise circumstances, the final number of injured and responsibility for the explosion remain under investigation.
