Explosion at Granada Ammunition Factory Leaves at Least Three Workers Lightly Injured

An explosion at the El Fargue ammunition factory near Granada, Spain, on Friday morning left at least three workers with minor injuries, according to Europa Press. Emergency services received numerous calls shortly before 9 a.m. reporting a detonation at the site.

Europa Press, citing emergency-service sources, reported that the workers’ injuries were related to hearing problems. Police and firefighters were sent to the factory, and the National Police deployed specialist explosives, public-safety, forensic and judicial teams to inspect the area. Police established security perimeters, according to sources cited by the agency.

Early injury figures varied: ABC reported that at least two people had minor hearing injuries and that no serious injuries were known at the time of its update. The factory declined to comment to Europa Press. The cause of the explosion had not been established in the reports.

The incident occurred at the El Fargue facility on Oct. 30. It is separate from a road incident earlier in October involving a truck carrying munitions, which Diario de Sevilla reported occurred on the A-4002.
