Developing: The Dallas Mavericks ruled Cooper Flagg out for the remainder of Friday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers after he appeared to hurt his shoulder on a hard foul in Indianapolis.
According to the original Bleacher Report post, Flagg was “OUT for the remainder of the game with an apparent shoulder injury” after Pacers wing Aaron Nesmith was assessed a Flagrant 1 foul. Several later reports from outlets including The Dallas Morning News, USA TODAY and The Sporting News said Flagg left with left shoulder soreness after the play and did not return.
Multiple accounts of the game described the injury as coming late in the first half or second quarter, when Flagg was fouled from behind on a fast-break dunk attempt and landed awkwardly on his left shoulder. The Mavericks were leading comfortably at the time, and reports said Flagg had 14 points, five rebounds and six assists before exiting.
What remains unknown is the extent of the shoulder injury and whether Flagg will be available for Dallas’ next game. USA TODAY reported coach Dusty May said Flagg would be evaluated in the next couple of days and was in “good spirits,” but there has been no official long-term diagnosis in the materials reviewed.
