Hamburg, NY Schools in Secure Lockout During Police Pursuit

Hamburg Middle and High schools were placed in a secure lockout Monday as police pursued people near the schools, according to local reports. The latest available update on the school status is unclear: WGRZ reported the lockout was in place, while a later-published CNY News article said it had been lifted.

WGRZ reporter C. N. Cortright posted at 15:21 UTC that video sent to the station showed a police vehicle driving across a soccer field and officers chasing at least one person. The post did not identify the person or say whether anyone had been arrested.

WGRZ reported in a post at 14:21 UTC that Hamburg Middle and High schools were in a “secure lockout” while police remained in the area. Its report on the incident said the school response followed a police incident Monday morning.

CNY News reported that Superintendent Tom Adams told parents law enforcement was pursuing suspects outside the middle and high schools. The article said the Town of Hamburg and Village of Hamburg police departments joined the decision to lock down the schools as a precaution. It also said the lockdown had been lifted and there had been no threat to students inside either building during the pursuit.

Those updates leave the precise timing of the lockout’s end uncertain: WGRZ’s 14:21 UTC post said it remained in effect, while CNY News’s article, published at 13:31 UTC, said it had been lifted. The available reports do not establish whether the school status changed again, nor do they identify anyone involved in the pursuit or report an arrest.
