San Antonio Marbach Shooting: Suspect in Critical Condition, Officers Safe

A 31-year-old man was in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting near Marbach Road and Horal Street on San Antonio’s West Side, FOX San Antonio reported, citing Police Chief Jesse Salame. The outlet reported that the officers were not injured; a later post from CLEAT also said officers were safe.

Salame told FOX San Antonio that undercover officers had been following a suspect wanted on a felony narcotics warrant before uniformed officers were called to make an arrest. According to the outlet’s account of the chief’s remarks, the suspect fired a gun at officers from a vehicle, and officers returned fire. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Marbach Road and Horal Drive, the outlet reported.

FOX San Antonio reported that the suspect’s vehicle struck a tree near a Burger King after a crash, and that the man got out and ran before collapsing in a nearby parking lot. He was wounded and taken into custody, the outlet reported. A front-seat passenger was also taken into custody, while a back-seat passenger fled and remained unaccounted for, according to Salame’s account.

The outlet reported that no officers or bystanders were injured. Salame said a handgun was recovered from the vehicle and that the department’s homicide and internal affairs units would conduct separate, concurrent investigations.

Earlier, News 4 San Antonio and KABB FOX 29 reported from the scene and advised people to avoid the area if possible. The exact sequence and timing of the shooting remain under investigation.
