Tallahassee police arrested a 15-year-old in connection with a shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium that left 11 people shot after the university’s homecoming football game, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. The teen was arrested Sunday, Oct. 25, a day after the shooting.
The shooting occurred on Saturday evening, Oct. 24, outside the stadium following FAMU’s homecoming game, the USA TODAY report said. At least 12 people were injured overall: 11 were shot, and a grandmother of one of the victims was hurt while fleeing, according to police information cited by the outlets.
The 15-year-old faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent, according to USA TODAY. Whether he will be charged as an adult was not clear in the report.
Investigation remains open
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said investigators believe a physical altercation preceded the gunfire and that the dispute involved people who knew one another. At this stage, none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets, according to the Tallahassee Democrat’s account of police statements.
Six victims remained hospitalized, including one in critical condition, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. Police said the investigation is active and additional arrests are possible. The reports do not establish whether the teen is the only person who will face charges.
