Crews battle third-alarm fire at Halifax grain elevator

Firefighters were battling a third-alarm fire Monday night at the grain elevator on Marginal Road in Halifax, with crews working inside the structure to contain the blaze, Your Halifax Now reported.

CTV News Atlantic reported the fire at the Halifax grain elevator site in a story published Oct. 26. The available reports describe an active response; they do not say the fire has been brought under control.

Fire reported high inside the facility

Your Halifax Now said Halifax Professional Fire Fighters reported multiple crews working inside the building to contain the fire. The union said Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Chief Deryn Rizzi was at the scene overseeing operations and warned the incident was expected to be prolonged.

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency described the fire as about 135 feet above ground, within the facility’s dust management system, according to Your Halifax Now. The location and height presented access and tactical challenges, the outlet reported.

Your Halifax Now urged people to avoid the area. The reports provided no confirmed information about the cause of the fire, injuries or damage, or when crews might finish their work.
