A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck near Rioblanco in Colombia’s Tolima department at 4:13 a.m. local time on Tuesday, 3 November, and shaking was reported across a broad area, according to a VolcanoDiscovery earthquake listing.
The earthquake occurred at 09:13 UTC. VolcanoDiscovery listed the epicentre about 24 kilometres north-northwest of Rioblanco, near Chaparral, and gave a depth of 10 kilometres. Its page identifies the US Geological Survey (USGS) as the primary data source, while noting in its account that the depth could not be determined and was assumed to be shallow.
VolcanoDiscovery recorded 532 felt reports and estimated that shaking may have reached around 7.8 million people. Those figures are estimates from the monitoring page, not a confirmed count of people affected.
Magnitude estimates differed in early coverage. The monitoring listing gave 5.4, while Democrata reported the earthquake as magnitude 5.6. Several early posts on X also cited values between 5.4 and 5.6.
Democrata reported that there were no victims or serious damage. The coverage available for this report did not include an official damage assessment or a statement from Colombia’s emergency authorities, so the impact remains unclear.
