Rashee Rice reportedly files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy over debts tied to 2024 crash

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has reportedly filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Texas, with a court petition listing more than $3.45 million in debts, much of it linked to lawsuits arising from a 2024 Dallas car crash.

USA TODAY reported, citing the filing, that Rice submitted the petition on Wednesday, 4 November, in the Northern District of Texas. It listed $677,054 in personal assets against debts exceeding $3.45 million. CBS Texas also reported the filing, saying it showed Rice owed more than $3.2 million to 20 creditors.

The filing reportedly listed $13,640 across three bank accounts, a Mercedes-Benz valued at $53,800 and Rice’s Super Bowl LVIII ring, valued at $160,000. CBS Texas reported that the ring was offered as collateral for his lawyer’s fees. Rice reported income of $1.25 million so far in 2026, according to the outlet.

Debts linked to Dallas crash and lawsuits

Rice’s debts include claims connected to the six-vehicle crash on a Dallas highway on 30 March 2024. Yahoo Sports reported that more than $2.1 million of the liabilities were tied to lawsuits, including claims brought by crash victims and a separate civil suit in which a former girlfriend has alleged abuse. Those allegations are not findings of liability.

Rice pleaded guilty in July 2025 to two third-degree felony charges related to the crash, according to CBS Texas. He later received five years’ probation and a 30-day jail sentence. NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that Rice and crash victim Kathryn Kuykendall agreed to a $1 million civil settlement in April 2025; her lawyer told the outlet that the settlement remained unpaid.

Rice is in the final year of his rookie contract with the Chiefs, according to The Dallas Morning News. The Chapter 7 petition and its listed figures have been reported by multiple outlets citing court records. CBS Texas said Rice’s attorney declined to comment; the supplied reports do not include a response from Rice.
