Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office identified Jacob Pearson, 35, as the gunman who died after a deadly shooting at Citibank’s Sabal Center campus near Tampa on 4 November, while the New York Post reported that surveillance footage of the incident had been released.
In a statement issued on 5 November, the sheriff’s office said Pearson drove into the campus gate shortly after noon and opened fire, killing Citibank employee Leanne Selman, 41. It said armed security guard John Fraley confronted Pearson in the cafeteria and shot him. Pearson was taken to hospital and pronounced dead; four other people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
The New York Post reported that surveillance footage showed the confrontation between Pearson and Fraley. The report described the video as newly released. The sheriff’s office statement confirms the shooting and the people involved, but does not itself refer to the footage.
Authorities said Pearson had made threats against Citibank after being contacted about a court summons over a debt of about $2,500. The Associated Press report published by WUSF said the sheriff described Pearson as angry over the debt collection and reported that the campus had about 3,200 employees. The investigation remains active, according to the sheriff’s office.
